Drawing For Kids… A Doctor’s Perspective

I ran across the article today and thought it was worth republishing.  This article originally published on Parents.com.   Decode Your Child’s Drawings Artwork is filled with insights into your kid’s mind — if you know what to look for. By Martin T. Stein, M.D. from Parents Magazine    Children love to draw, and their work is a reflection of their inner world. Most kids don’t think about or censor their artwork. For the past 40 years, I’ve used children’s drawings as an important part of my pediatric practice. At each well-child visit beginning at 4 or 5 years old, our nurse asks

The weather was gorgeous today!  My daughter and I made our way to one of the many tables of supplies and helped ourselves to a little basket of drawing materials.  We

Drawing With Children – Mother & Daughter Artists

Finding time to draw with my child is something I look forward to.  This weekend my daughter delighted herself in writing and illustrating two little books.  She gathers paper and has me “bind” it with staples and off she goes to write and draw.  One little book was about tying her shoes and the other about the Powerpuff Girls – she’s 5 with diverse interests ;o). She said that she wanted to be an author when she grew up.  I explained that she didn’t have to be a grown-up to an author, that she could be one now.  Her

Watercolor Painting With My Daughter On Vacation

Our family recently traveled up to the Lake Tulloch area of California for a mini vacation.  I was eager to escape the traffic and congestion of Los Angeles in exchange for blue skies and beautiful landscapes.  I was very pleased with my choice of location to spend a few days away enjoying nature.  We were met at our vacation cabin by neighborhood deer, a wandering fox, and roaming wild turkeys.  With such a great landscape right outside my window, I couldn’t help but want to capture it with a little watercolor landscape painting.  My daughter is always eager to create
